Foothills Orienteering Club (aka Foothills Wanderers Orienteering Club or FWOC) was founded in 1977 and provides orienteering events and training to people of all ages, identities, and abilities in Calgary and surrounding areas.

Try Orienteering

Curious about the amazing sport of orienteering. Would you like to learn to read a topographical orienteering map? Follow a detailed forest, park, or urban street map to find checkpoints. Choose your own pace and route based on your speed and navigation skills. There are options suitable for all ages and skill levels. From newcomers, to recreational runners, to hard-core athletes, internationally ranked competitors, we have a course for you.

Try a Single Drop In Event to experience the sport of orienteering! $10 gets you a map for any Wednesday event. These events are a great way to participate with a friend or group. We always have someone from the club to explain the sport and share their orienteering knowledge.

On select Wednesday nights we do have Free Try It Events where an experienced orienteer will be there to show you how to get started. Please refer to our Events Calendar for more details.

Membership

A Foothills Orienteering Club (FWOC) membership (valid Jan 1 - Dec 31) includes membership in the Alberta Orienteering Association (AOA), which in turn is a member of Orienteering Canada (OC), a member of the International Orienteering Federation (IOF). A current FWOC or OC membership is required to participate in FWOC activities (Event Fees are extra and listed for each event).

Age is calculated as of Dec 31 of the current year.

Adult Membership (21+): $20 including tax and fees
Youth / Junior Membership (6 to 20 years old): $15 including tax and fees. NOTE: 40% discount will be applied to the membership fee when registering with a legal parent or guardian at the same time of registration.
Child (up to 5 years old): free.

Your FWOC membership includes access to self-guided orienteering events including GPS orienteering and permanent courses.

Wednesday Evening Orienteering (WEO) Events

Wednesday evenings during Spring, Summer and Fall we put on an orienteering event. these are excellent to hone your orienteering skills.
Event pre-registration is required so that we print enough maps.
Want to attend all Wednesday events? Then a 2026 WEO Series Pass is the best option. Purchase a series pass for only $55! A current FWOC membership is required.
Not sure how many events you can attend? You can purchase individual events. Each event costs $5 for members or $10 for drop in (non-members). The registration link is available on each event page per date.

Youth Programs

SOGO Adventure Running is our fun outdoors program for children and youth aged 2 - 17. Programs run in the spring and fall for 5 - 10 weeks and are offered in several locations in Calgary and Bragg Creek. Visit SOGO.run for more information. We also have at school residency programs available which is great for outdoor education and physical education programs.
